About Alexandra Pullen aka Healthy Ballerina
Hi! Welcome to my website! I'm Alexandra Pullen, a Los Angeles based yoga instructor, dancer, wellness influencer, and travel addict--just to name a few things! I'm also a health, holistic wellness, yoga, and life enthusiast! This is a blog dedicated to my healthy plant-based recipes, holistic approach to wellness, and travel--with some snippets of my life in between. I'm a professional ballet dancer turned wellness activist. I've traveled the world on tour, performed at some of the most beautiful theatres, and met incredible and inspiring people because of ballet. On the flip side, as a result of being in such a harsh environment for my entire life I have struggled with common insecurities such as self-doubt, body image issues, negativity, and stress, to name a few. I moved to NYC to dance with American Ballet Theatre on my own when I was only a teenager, and it forced me to grow up quickly and become extremely independent at a young and vulnerable age. During this time, I discovered the power of eating whole foods for energy, stamina, and balance (in all senses of the word). Coming from a background in the professional ballet world, I got used to constant criticism; my reality was being told I wasn't good enough 24/7 (with my biggest critic being myself). I am determined to promote balance and self-love in an effort to help others combat this negative cycle. Feeding your body the colorful and nutrient-rich foods that nature has designed for it to eat will make you feel your best--and it's one of the best ways to show your body the respect and love it deserves!
I've since relocated to Los Angeles, and did my first yoga teacher training which opened my mind to a whole new aspect of wellbeing: mindfulness. Yoga became my therapy (body & mind) and now I can share that with others through my teachings. Mindful movement and meditation seriously changed my life, and it's a joy to be able to pass that along to others. Health is not just about what you eat, it's about listening intuitively to your body and filling it with positive thoughts and affirmations. I share my musings and approach to life with the yogic practice in mind in my Blog section of my website.
This blog started as a means to express what it meant to be a strong and healthy ballerina, which has since evolved to include a broader scope. I think there's a "ballerina" inside of every woman. Every little girl dreams of being a ballerina. To me, a ballerina isn't just a profession; It's an identity. I will always be a ballerina. A ballerina is the pinnacle of grace, beauty, strength, and womanhood. The term "ballerina" is relatable to all women because at the core of what it means to be a ballerina is what we all aspire to be. It's about poise, grace, beauty, and chasing your childhood dreams.
I want to help YOU. As a former dancer with American Ballet Theatre and professional athlete, I've learned the value of balance as well as the importance of wholesome nutrition in order to fuel an active lifestyle. I carry my knowledge and experience of managing the stress and rigor of ballet with a holistic and balanced approach to wellness. Using food as medicine has the power to heal you from the inside out. Natural energy can be achieved by feeding your body the nutrients it craves, mindfully moving your body, and filling it with positive thoughts. Let me share with you!
